Waste transport companies and joining the organized waste transport system

Every property must be connected to an organized waste management system. You can join a system by making an agreement with a waste transport company of your choice. Contact details for waste transport companies are available here.

Waste transport company and waste sorting
Stormossen Oy Ab is a municipal waste management company jointly owned by the municipalities. It is responsible for waste management service functions such as waste reception, treatment, recycling stations, Stormossen eco-points, waste advisory services, and waste fee invoicing. More information, for example on waste sorting, can be found on Stormossen’s website: www.stormossen.fi/en/

Waste-to-Energy Plant
Westenergy Oy Ab is a waste-to-energy plant owned by seven waste management companies (Stormossen Oy Ab, Botniarosk Oy Ab, Lakeuden Etappi Oy, Millespakka Oy, Vestia Oy, Ekorosk Ab Oy, and Loimi-Hämeen Jätehuolto Oy). Mixed waste from the Vaasa Region Waste Management Board area is delivered to Westenergy.

Sorting of packaging waste
Suomen Pakkauskierrätys RINKI Oy is a non-profit service company responsible for collecting packaging waste. Since 1 January 2016, RINKI has managed most of the eco-points in the region.

Authorities
The Vaasa Region Waste Management Board is responsible for the municipalities’ statutory authority duties related to waste management. The Board approves the waste tariff and decides on waste management regulations and exemptions.
Supervision of waste management is carried out by the municipal environmental authorities and the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centre).
